Welcome to 2019!

Hi people, its been a while ;) ...  more than a... year  (in fact almost 2..) since I wrote my last post. So to sum things up, lot of things both in my private life and my professional life has happened. I did try out teaching again, which was fun, but I also missed the developer side of life.

Also had the privilege to move, twice :D!

Regarding development I am at a nice shift in how I perceive myself, but the main theme is that new things are on the horizon for 2019. :)

My latest work do include a setup application based on React. So basically a pretty ok standardized React application base, that can go in "any" direction. With a much more thought out structure, layout, utility methods and own libraries needed to support a scalable, isomorpic modern single page application (or SPA).

This project is meant to be a "base" for a bigger project, that includes a viable business idea :P, and well there are a quite of those, but they all need to to be worked through.

Astronomy Picture Of the Day - Wordpress plugin

Hi people, I've been working with something different lately... I actually went into teaching high-schoolers! Following your own ideas about things that matter to you and your view of life is something I deem as really important and one of the key factors helping one live a more satisfying and gratifying life, but besides my current exploration in the academic sector, acting more as a mentor and teacher in the ways I can help people, I have also taken up some hours of my life to toy around with pulling together a Wordpress plugin.  I guess I still enjoy creating stuff with code when the purpose, idea and a bunch of other parameters are set... 😏

Heck for the sake of it, its space, its NASA, its some API development practice and Wordpress plugin practice, and just cool generally, I decided to toy around with the NASA's open API and it resulted in a plugin called Astronomy Picture Of the Day. Eventhough there are similar concepts made before on rss flow and similar, its always fun to create your own version of things.. like living your own life and not someone elses....

And also since I never published anything on Wordpress.org before I thought it would be cool to see how that works, so... I did it! 😄💪. And the nice guys at Wordpress helped me with some naming conventions so I would not be in violation of copyright laws (like using the word NASA in the plugin.. would be bad, like on the other side of good in some way). Anyways go check it out @ https://wordpress.org/plugins/astronomy-picture-of-the-day/

Peace and take care of yourself and your loved ones

Free Video Player on NPM

Hi pps, hope u are doing well ;)! Besides doing some more soul-searching and realizing more of how I want my life to be (spending more time with family, friends, traveling and being true to how I feel inside :D.. less work if it does not appeal to me). Maybe I will turn this blog into a philosophical outpost along the dev stuff I do, but basically I do believe we are all in HUGH shift on this planet in becoming more true to ourselves in so many ways, which in turn include that its gonna be hard to keep up an attitude of separation, hurtfulness and division between people, between fractions, countries, companies, nature and humans and also within ourselves (basically we will be pushed to become more of our authentic selves, which in turn is awesome! :)).

One of the things I still do believe in when it comes to tech, which is interluding with the above mentioned philophosy, is transparency, openess and... open source ;).  So started working more with enhancing Free Video Player

Did a new release to the project and alsoe added it to... *drum roll* npm :D.  Yes its awesome that I got it up there and the only instance so far with the name free-video-player (perfect). So now
a user utilizing tech like Node with build tools such as Webpack etc can use the player by typing

npm install free-video-player

Go check it out...

Anyways take care of yourselves and your loved ones, life is short, make it count for yourself and let yourself shine!

Peace & love
/J

NODE REST API SERVER - Omega 2 / Raspberry Pi

Hi there people, hope all of your lives are going wonderfully well and that you keep being awesome b'cause that is who you are! :) Kept working a bit with a more evolved and more advanced version of my previous NODE REST API SERVER which should be able to be run either on a Omega 2 / Raspberry Pi (or something else). Now also included a Clear DB (mysql) db connection.

A demo version available here...

And here is a pretty cool anime (depending if you still have boyish tendencies (like me ;)) in what  you like.. ;))

And if you like drama and human relationships a bit more.. I liked this one

Vacation times - React / Sthlm Open API / Quote App

Ok people some time has passed since I wrote anything and thats fine I guess, everybody needs their free time and time to recouperate in the ways that suits them. I am thinking of trying the Digital Nomad life and also incorporating more teaching to others be it by tech talks, spiritual enlightenment talks ( the constant ongoing journey.. ;)), or just regular teaching to youngsters in some form aswell as being able to play more music that would also tick my boxes so to speak.

When it comes to the developy part of life I have recently started looking into React ( after reading a bit about it and really digging how they do things as opposed to Angular (have not fully tested their part 2 but its also taking a similar approach in certain ways as to how React is handling things and that seems fun and the correct approach to take when it comes to building web-apps nowadays.

So I did a small demo application in React where I talk to an open stockholm API for commuter traffic ( metro, train, buses etc). The demo application (not done yet).. can be found here @

https://react-traffic-jam-app.herokuapp.com/.

Also being a romantic.. and the world always needs more love ;).. I started to put together a quote app, basically giving the user a random love quote when entering the page and clicking a button to give them the quotes. This was more as a fun thing since most of the quote pages out there tends to just collect the data on different pages and its not as easily accessible or giving the amount of surprise that can happen when its being served randomly.

Free Video Player - ALPHA RELEASE ! :)

That's right, after some grinding in fixing cross-browser bugs and other hassle with both listening to correct events from the keyboard, adjusting css and other functionality issues. I have now released the first ALPHA version of Free Video Player. It am glad I have finally been able to reach this level of consistency and reaching the first point of release for the player, even though it most likely will need more attention in fixes in the features that have been pushed in this ALPHA release, but now its out in the public so others might be able to test the player and provide feedback!

Lets see where this goes. Anyways it feels good that I managed to get to this point.  I deserve a break which I am taking now ;). Peace out!

Acapulco First Episode

Hi pps! Hope you are having a nice february! Me and a friend /former colleague decided to go for a conference trip to Acapulco to both meet new interesting business contacts, get inspiration, attend workshops and more. But also to work a bit more with Free Video Player and its different components. Working on getting to the Alpha release stage. So Basically we are going for supporting VOD's with subtitle support, muxxed and separated track support for DASHED resources, as well as support for standard formats such as mp4 and webm. Moreover Free Video Player should also support multiple bitrates, and hopefully (maybe.. ;)) we will fix support for multiple audio streams aswell (that might be included further down the line but.. ;)).

Anyways a bit about the start of our trip, we started with a 19 (ish) hour flight with Lufthansa, where they both had power supply for the computers (kudos to Lufthansa) making us able to work over the atlantic, which we did!

For us the first official hotspot setup between our development environments sending packages back and forth in mid-air (about 8000 m up over the atlantic and the over the alaskan/canadian thundra ;)). Was a pretty cool experience having like your own wifi and dev environment there ;).

Anyways attaching some images from our first day here, more to come :)

Peace
